The Knife & Cleaver, Houghton Conquest

I had a mixed experience at the hotel. The rooms were very well decorated, comfortable, and very clean, but there was a lingering unpleasant smell, reminiscent of an old dog, even with the window open. The service was efficient but lacked personal touches. The location was picturesque but noisy due to the proximity to a pub and church bells chiming every hour. Dining was tasty but fell short of expectations with limited options. Overall, it was a stay with highs and lows.

The hotel offers a quiet stay across the courtyard, but the rooms are a bit tired, damp, smelly, and dark. Despite some minor issues in the room, the pub atmosphere adds a nice touch. The location is directly opposite a beautiful church, but light sleepers might be bothered by the hourly bells. The dining experience is fabulous with the option for breakfast anytime, although some items can feel a bit artificial. Overall, the hotel provides exceptional value for the area.
